In the early 1900′s Vinings was a resort for those living in down town Atlanta. Vinings proper is made up of just 10,000 acres. The area that makes up Vinings was originally owned by Hardy Pace who helped to found Atlanta. He operated the ever popular Pace’s Ferry that ran across the Chattahoochee River, in this area between Atlanta and Buckhead In 1884 he was buried in a small family cemetery atop Vinings Mountain, now called Mount Wilkinson. Vinings was first named Crossroads, and then Paces. In 1904, the final name change was in honor of an engineer who helped to lay the Western and Atlantic Railroad tracks through the town.
Vinings in Made up of many small neighborhoods. A few of these neighborhoods are Bakers farm, Woodland Brook, Rebel farm, Brandy Station, Randall Farm, Cochise, Vinings Heights, Stillhouse, Knob Hill, Valley Creek, Brookview, Landsdowne, Valley Trail, Orchard Valley, Orchard Run, Orchard lake, Polo Lane and Farmington.

Joe Lee to design the initial 18-hole golf course
The course opened for play in the fall of 1969.
In 1969 Indian Hills Country Club Estates was comprised of 1,000 single-family residential lots and 250 condominium units.
In 1972, Cousins acquired 300 acres to constructed a third nine-holes course.
The club was purchased by a local private club management company in 1978.
Over $4 million in improvements and renovations of the country club were completed in 2003, including a beautiful new clubhouse.
