Moving
Let's face it, moving
is a total pain. Here are some resources to help make your relocation
to Atlanta almost hassle free:
United
States Postal Service: The postal carrier has finally become online friendly,
and having just recently utilized their online change of address form, I
can vouch that it works. The $1.00 fee for submitting the form online seems
a bit ridiculous, but it's well worth the convenience.
All
Connect, a local company that will contact all of the local utility companies
and set up new service for you, saving you the hassle of contacting each
one individually. Best of all, the service is free, and covers things like newspaper subscriptions
and high speed internet service as well.
Department
of Motor Vehicles: The Georgia Department of Motor
Vehicles is embracing technology and allowing drivers
to perform certain functions, such as renewals, online. However,
address changes still have to be done in person, at a full testing
facility. If in doubt about where you need to go, email or call
to verify before standing in a long line for nothing.
Department
of Transportation: The Georgia DOT will become an integral
part of life to anyone driving in Georgia. From up to date information
on traffic, road construction, and special projects that could
affect your commute time, to commuter programs designed to ease
the traffic on Atlanta roads, they are one of the most powerful
agencies in the state.
Voter
Registration: Don't forget to register to vote. You can't register
to vote online yet, but you can print the voter registration form
from this site, fill it out, sign it, and mail it to the address
indicated.
Doctor
Locator: This service can help new residents in their search
for a doctor in the metro Atlanta area that meets their specific
needs.
Atlanta
Public Schools: Directory to public schools in the metro Atlanta
area, and everything you need to know about the public school system
in Atlanta.
Atlanta
Private Schools: The Georgia Department of Education website
also provides information to parents regarding private schools
in the metro Atlanta area.
Atlanta
Employment Guide: Helpful resources for those looking for a
new job in the metro Atlanta area.
